Our Mission

The Clemson Little Theatre fosters an inclusive and vibrant theatre community through diverse, high-quality theatrical productions that inspire creativity, connection, and dialogue. We are committed to providing a supportive and safe environment where every participant—onstage, backstage, and in the audience—feels valued and included.

Welcome

Congratulations on being part of this production with The Clemson Little Theatre! We are thrilled to have you. Theatre is a collaborative art form built on trust, respect, and dedication from everyone involved. This agreement outlines our expectations and procedures to ensure we create a safe, positive, and successful experience for all participants. Please read through this document carefully with your parent or guardian.

Cast & Crew Expectations

  • Be Prompt: Arrive at rehearsal at or before the designated start time. Being on time shows respect for everyone's commitment to the production.
  • Be Prepared: Bring your script, pencil, and water bottle to every rehearsal. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes appropriate for movement. If it's appropriate for school, it's appropriate for theatre.
  • Be Present: Give your full attention during rehearsals. While we want you to have fun, we also want to create an excellent show, which requires focus and dedication from everyone.
  • Be Respectful: Treat everyone in the theatre with courtesy and respect. Pay attention during rehearsals and avoid distracting others. Respect the property, personal space, and opinions of all cast, crew, and volunteers.
  • Be Considerate: Think about how your words and actions affect others. We're all working together to create something special.
  • Embrace Inclusivity: CLT celebrates diversity and does not tolerate discrimination or harassment based on race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion, or disability. Cyberbullying is also prohibited.
  • Foster Collaboration: Community theatre is a team effort. Support your fellow cast and crew members, and appreciate the hard work everyone contributes.

Rehearsal Procedures

  • Attendance & Sign-In: You must sign in at every rehearsal. Your presence is essential to the success of the production. All conflicts should be submitted at auditions. If an emergency conflict arises, contact the Producer, Director, or Stage Manager immediately.
  • Memorization (Off-Book): The Director will announce when lines must be memorized. Practice your lines, blocking, songs, and choreography both inside and outside of rehearsal. If you need help with memorization, please ask the Director for guidance.
  • Theatre Move-In: When we transition from the rehearsal space to the theatre, enter through the designated side door. Sign in at the front of the theatre and take a seat as close to the stage as possible.
  • Transportation & Pick-Up: Youth participants who cannot drive themselves must be signed out by a parent or guardian after each rehearsal. Parents must inform CLT staff in writing (via Remind app, text, or email) if their child will be driving themselves or if someone other than a parent/guardian will be picking them up. Advance written permission is required for any transportation changes.
  • Missed Rehearsals: Please make every effort to attend all rehearsals you are called to. Missing an unexcused rehearsal affects the entire cast and crew, regardless of your role size. We understand emergencies happen—just communicate with the production team as soon as possible.

Theatre Etiquette & Safety Guidelines

These guidelines help us maintain a safe, professional environment and protect our historic theatre building:

  • Respect Our Space: Always leave the theatre cleaner than you found it. Clean up any drinks, food, or personal items. Our building is historic and needs everyone's care. No food is allowed on stage or backstage—only water in bottles or cups with secure lids is permitted backstage.
  • Props Are Sacred: Never touch, move, or borrow another person's props, even if you think they should be somewhere else. Each prop is carefully placed for the show. If something seems misplaced, please alert the Stage Manager.
  • Quiet Backstage: Maintain silence backstage and in the green room during rehearsals and performances. Voices and footsteps carry onto the stage and into the audience. No shushing—it's often louder than talking! Your quiet allows everyone to hear cues and maintain the magic of the performance.
  • Cell Phones: Cell phones should never be brought on stage, even in pockets, where they could be a distraction. Please keep cell phones with your stuff. During tech rehearsals and performances, cell phones, tablets, and electronic devices must remain in the green room and are not permitted backstage or on stage at any time. A ringing phone can disrupt the entire show.
  • Costume Care: Many of our costumes are vintage or one-of-a-kind. Treat them with care and always hang them neatly on hangers. All costume pieces must be on hangers or designated shelves in the green room—never left on the floor.
  • Tech Booth: The tech booth is reserved for sound, lighting, and projection operators only. Actors and stage crew should not enter the tech booth.
  • Backstage Areas: Youth participants must inform the production team of their whereabouts at all times. You may not leave the building, enter the lobby restroom, or go outside without permission from the production team.
  • Auditorium Behavior: When not rehearsing, please sit quietly near the front of the auditorium. No running, roughhousing, or jumping off the stage—ever. These actions can cause serious injury and damage our historic stage.

Behavior Standards & Legal Expectations

CLT is committed to creating a safe, inclusive environment where everyone feels welcomed and valued. The following standards are mandatory for all participants:

I/my child pledge(s) to uphold the following standards:

  • Respect for All: I will treat all cast members, production team, and volunteers with respect. Physical, verbal, or cyber abuse of any kind will not be tolerated.
  • Appropriate Language: I will not use inappropriate, offensive, or threatening language in the theatre or on theatre property.
  • Prohibited Items: I will not bring drugs, alcohol, tobacco, vaping devices, firearms, or weapons of any kind onto CLT property.
  • Photography & Social Media: I will not take, share, or post inappropriate photos or videos of anyone. Photos and videos during rehearsals or performances require Director permission and consent of those being photographed.
  • Property Respect: I will not damage theatre property, including buildings, equipment, props, costumes, and sets. Parents will be held financially liable for any damages caused by their child.
  • Attendance Commitment: I agree to attend all designated rehearsals, tech/dress rehearsal week, and performances, except for conflicts I provided at audition.

Expectations Adherence & Enforcement

Our goal is to maintain a safe, positive environment for all participants. If expectations are not met, we will follow this process:

  1. Verbal warning from a member of the production team
  2. If necessary, a formal conference with the Director, Producer(s), participant, and parent/guardian
  3. If issues continue, removal from the production
IMPORTANT: In cases of extreme behavior—including but not limited to physical assault, threats of violence, or intentional property destruction—the participant will be removed immediately from the production and may be prohibited from participating in future CLT productions. If abuse crosses legal boundaries, local authorities will be notified.
